One of the questions we often get asked is: "What gear do you use?" So, we thought it was about time we dedicated a post to our favorite Pickleball equipment and the reasons why we chose them. Here's a peak inside our gear bag!
1. My Gear: The Speed and Control Combo
My go-to paddle is the Selkirk Epic Amped. I chose it for its large sweet spot and lightweight design. The ample sweet spot allows for a great deal of forgiveness with off-center hits, while the lightweight construction ensures quick response and maneuverability, providing excellent balance and control.
On my feet, I sport the ASICS Solution Speed FF2 tennis shoes. These shoes provide great on-court stability and have exceptional cushioning for maximum comfort, even during the longest games. The shoe's lightweight nature ensures I can move swiftly around the court, matching the fast-paced dynamics of Pickleball.
As for the balls, we prefer using Franklin Pickleballs. They have a consistent bounce, excellent durability, and their bright colors are easy to spot, even in low-light conditions.
2. Pickleball Gear For Friends and Kids:
We always keep a collection of assorted paddles for our friends and young visitors. It's important to us that everyone who comes to our court, regardless of their skill level or age, can join in and enjoy the game. We have found that having an assortment of paddles on hand encourages newcomers to the sport and ensures that everyone can find a paddle that suits their style and comfort level.
3. My Wife's Gear: Control and Power
My wife swears by her Engage Elite Pro Maverick paddle. This paddle has a longer handle and a heavier weight, characteristics that she finds helps her control her shots better. The additional weight gives the paddle more power, and the longer handle gives it a tennis-like feel, which she prefers. She appreciates the control and power this paddle brings to her game, allowing her to make accurate shots while still delivering a powerful punch when needed.
Importance of the Right Gear
The gear we use plays a significant role in our enjoyment and success on the Pickleball court. Each piece of equipment we've chosen helps us to play our best, enjoy the game, and continue improving. Remember, the right gear is the one that fits your playing style and comfort the best, not necessarily what's popular or expensive.
